What shall I tell her
as she comes around the fire
clutching his hand with a promise
that she will do so through her life
What shall I tell her
when her heart is not doing the walk
and was killed first
before she took this gad
What shall I tell her
my friend with tear swollen eyes
red with previous nights snivels
dry for there s nothing more to draw or to be drawn
What shall I tell her
when she is still looking
thro the doorway , in anticipation o a miracle
but into the fire again, in realisation o reality
What shall I tell her
when guests are loading her with gifts
not knowing that she lost
the greatest gift in life, the greatest gift called life
What shall I tell her
when she finally walks out of the hall with him
into an unchangeable world
into the lifeless loveless days ahead
What shall I tell her
as she stops at the car to turn
when phrases o "happy married life"
fly mercilessly thro the air
What shall I tell her
for she turned to look at me
the friend o mine with a look that begged
eyes that pleaded “ o don’t u say too"
as I nodded in comprehension
she pulled down a corner of her lip
a wry smile that she could afford
n there I walked n I dint say
The car vrroomed past
with a girl who still lived in the past
n there I walked away
n there I wiped away n I dint say
